The location of the park is one of the best things about it. There's a beautiful view of the hills, which gets even better when mist descends over them during the rains. Fish tanks and swings are an additional attraction for children. Here too, the indecent activities of couples are a huge nuisance. A small brook can also be seen flowing below the park. The view is exquisite at sunset.

IMA (Indian Military Academy)

The academy is located in the foothills of the Himalayas, about 8 km west of Shiva Redidency Dehradun. The campus is on National Highway 72, which separates the North and South Campus. The campus of the academy originally spanned 206 acres which was transferred to the academy along with existing buildings from the Railway Staff College. The academy area is 1,400 acres. The IMA Museum on the campus displays artifacts of historic importance.


Tapkeshwar Shiv Temple is an ancient place of worship and is situated on the banks of a rivulet, in the Garhi Cantt. the temple is well connected by road. It is named Tapkeshwar as water droplets, originating from a rock, fall on the Shivling placed in the shrine. People in large numbers participate in the fair organized on the occasion of Shivratri and pay their obeisance to the deity.


Sahasratra Dhara, laterally meaning, the 'thousand fold spring' is situated at a distance of 11 kms. from Dehra Dun. The place makes an ideal picnic spot and is of immense attraction to visitors. The Baldi river and the caves provide a breathtaking view. The water here has a fall of about 9 metres and leaves an incrustation of lime of all its touches. Particles thus accumulating over the centuries have formed a projecting ledge, and a sort of cave, from the roof of which falls a perpetual shower. There is also a sulphur spring in which visitors often take bath. Its water is said to cure skin infections and possess other medicinal properties.

Forest Research Institute (FRI)

Established in 1906 FRI is one of the oldest institutions that was developed for the research work in forestry not only in India but all around the world. You could see the architectural beauty of the place that often takes ones mind away.


An ideal place for a picnic, Robber's Cave is just 8 Kms away from the Shiva Residency. Local bus services are available upto Anarwala Village, from where it is just a Kilometre's trek to the spot.


Dehradun-Rajpur road, this place is situated in beautiful surroundings. Legend has it that Guru Dronacharya had done penance in this area.

Away from Dehradun towards Hardwar / Rishikesh is a famous temple known as the Laxman Siddh. Legend has it that a sage underwent penance over here. Due to easy accessibility the temple is visited by a large number of people especially on Sundays.


Enroute Mussoorie is situated a beautifully developed tourist spot lying at the foot hills of the Shivalik range. Malsi Deer Park is a mini-zoological park comprising of a children's park enveloped by beautiful, natural surroundings. Alongwith the attractive environs the availability of refreshments makes the place an ideal sight-seeing cum picnic spot.


On the Hardwar / Rishikesh road is Lachhiwala. The serene and blissful spot is famous for its picnic spots. The place also provides accommodation to tourists in the Forest Rest House nestled in the greenery.

Buddha Temple

Buddha Temple as the replica of a Tibetan monastery in 1965. Buddha Temple was built to protect and promote Tibetan culture in India, and lots of renovation and additions were done to the temple building and whole temple complex during later years. The main stupa of the temple, about 220 feet in height, is built in the Japanese architectural style. It is claimed to be the largest reliquary in Asia. The Buddha Temple building has five floors in total, and there are stairs to access each floor. All five floors enshrine statues of Buddha and Guru Padmasambhava, and feature colourful wall paintings that completely mesmerize first-time visitors. After viewing ornate decorations on three floors of the Buddha Temple, you will reach the open viewing platform on the fourth floor of the temple, which offers a magnificent 360-degree view of the entire Dehradun Valley.

Another great attraction within the temple complex is the great statue of Buddha. This statue is nearly 103 feet high and was constructed about 10 years ago. It is dedicated to the Dalai Lama, the spiritual guru of Tibetan people. The beautiful garden of the temple features a wide variety of beautiful flowers, and the calm and tranquil environment offers a soothing ambience to visitors. A book shop within the Buddha Temple complex has a good collection of books in the Tibetan language because Tibetan people living in the area purchase books from this shop. About five hundred lamas live and study in the Buddha Temple complex. They are provided with free accommodation, clothing, food, and many other facilities by the Buddha Temple authorities.

The shops and temple garden are open for the general public seven days a week. However, the interior of the temple remains open only on Sundays. Don't forget to remove your shoes before entering the main hall of the Buddha Temple.

You can easily reach Buddha Temple from any part of Dehradun city. You just need to first get to the Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) and then drive towards Clement Town on Delhi-Saharanpur Road. Moving about 4 km from ISBT, you reach the turn for Subhash Nagar-Clement Town. Take the left turn and continue until you reach T-point near the Air Force building. From here, the temple lies nearly 1 km towards your right side. You'll be able to see the spire of the temple from a distance.


About 15 Kms from Shiva Residency to reach the famous temple of Santaula Devi, one can utilize the bus facilities till Jaitunwala, then it is a 2 Kms drive to Punjabiwala by a jeep or any light vehicle and further it is a 2 kms trek to the temple. The temple stands as a symbol of the faith people have in the temple and has a great cultural and religious significance. A light flickered and within moments they both were transformed into stone images. It is within the fort that the shrine was built and Saturdays marks the transformation of the Goddess into stone.


Assan Barrage was created in 1967 and it is popularly known as Dhalipur Lake. Situated 43 kms from Dehradun on Chandigarh-Shimla highway, the resort offers facilities like water skiing, boating, rowing, kayaking, canoeing etc. Wildlife lovers have an added bonus during the winter season as migratory birds can be seen in the vicinity


Dakpathar is a beautiful tourist spot in the western Doon Valley, amidst the Shivalik range. Dakpathar has emerged a wonderful tourist spot under the Yamuna Hydel Scheme. The place is connected by a regular bus service from the Parade Ground and Highway Bus Stand near the Railway Station, Dehradun. Accommodation is available in a Tourist Rest House with swimming pool facilities.

Clock Tower

One among the most significant structures in the city, Clock Tower in Dehradun is renowned for its aesthetic beauty. An exceptional formation, this tower is one of its own kind in entire Asia itself. Constructed before independence, this six-faced tower might have adorned a prestigious position in the history of this hilly region. The locals said that the chime of the clock was perceptible from far-off places of the hill city. Situated in the busiest Rajpur Road, this tower is bounded by the commercial structures of the city. Now this tower presents only as an elegant monument of the bygone years rather than a clock tower.
